Well, it's finally Christmas.... or, "Holiday" break, for LHS Staff and students. All will resume in three weeks for the last month of the semester.
Today, Saturday 12-18-04 - the Broadway Parade will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., beginning at Lincoln High School and ending at Daly Street. Celebrities, organizations, and the ever-present political candidates- incumbents and challengers, as well as more community figures, will be present.
Will Lincoln High be represented? At this time, my guess is "No" since (1) we have-for the second or third year, at least- no marching band, and (2) there was no publicity at all regarding the LHS cheerleaders' or drill team's participation earlier, so that's why.
I hope I am wrong as there should be no reason for the neighborhood's main high school to be missing from a community event. ON December 5th, the Highland Park Parade, or Christmas Parade or Northeast Parade (there have been so many names in the past) was held. Franklin and Eagle Rock High Schools were represented in that parade, according to the program of participants. Many years ago, I remember that LHS had it's band, drill team, cheerleaders, Jr. ROTC, and the ROTC Drill Team all participating in this parade. We did seem to find that school pride was not a scarce commodity back in our times. Things have changed a bit, but if LHS is going to be moving back up to where it could be, alumni can have a part by voicing that opinion to show how important things like that are.
Come see the parade, if you can. It is sponsored by the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council.
