Pasadena Playhouse to close; A destination for LHS drama fans in 2009

The Pasadena Playhouse is closing in February as reported by the L.A. Times. Last year alumni, teachers and students visited to attend the presentation of "Stormy Weather," a story about Lena Horne, played by Leslie Uggams. [Review from L.A. Times last February- http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2009/02/review-stormy-w.html ]

The Times story today by By Mike Boehm, January 30, 2010, goes into more details, and like most things today, it's all about money and the lack thereof. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/arts/la-et-pasadena-playhouse30-2010jan30,0,673828,full.story

Some LHS alumni from back in our history trained and performed at the Pasadena Playhouse. See Johh Doucette,

Reminder- Tomorrow, Alumni fundraising at Shakey's Pizza, Alhambra

The LHS Alumni Association is having a fundraiser event THURSDAY night, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Shakey's Pizza in Alhambra (2234 W. Valley Blvd., Alhambra) just East of Fremont Ave. and west of Atlantic- check map

It's a casual affair just to get alumni together without a lot of fuss and to raise some money for the assorted events and awards that are sponsored by the Alumni Association. (See Fundraiser Flyer.)

You can come by and stay for as long as you like, or even get an order to-go that helps out, but be sure to designate the receipts at time of purchase which will generate a share going to the Alumni Association.

Come by, even call a few friends to come with you, and spend some time to see some old faces (some more old than others- time goes by more quickly than you might realize) and catch up on what's been happening and what's planned, as well as bringing up a few old memories- especially vividly recalled in the area of LHS sports, with accuracy an optional feature.

Just a low-key event, as a change from some of the past events, to attend in a come-as-you-are setting to relax and enjoy.
