Friday's game was a sell-out, thanks to all the support from the LHS family of alumni, students and faculty/administrators and support staff.

A few more weeks til the next home game, and then we will be in league play, but nice to have a local opponent. There was one completed pass that took the Tigers from the far end of the field to about the 50 yard line. Stunning, even though a turnover a little later unwound the progress. Hey, it's still early and we will be getting better. It was sure a work out for the defense, with a lot of time on the field.

Please check your programs for the schedule and ticket prices. It looks like $5 at the gate and $4 for advance student sales. Parking was a challenge, but manageable. Still need attention to the handicapped parking to be in compliance with the law.

There were lots of old friends there to visit with, which goes for all the alumni years. It was a very enjoyable evening... now we see what we have been missing all these years without night games at home.

Upcoming events- Gala Reunion, November 1, 2003- Saturday at the Biltmore Hotel. $75 per ticket. Plan this into your activities; and buy a pair of tickets.

Career Share Day for each of the volunteering Alumni to visit with a different class all to themselves for three periods. October 15th. 8:30 to Noon with a complimentary luncheon and some refreshments at the morning and nutrition breaks. Call, fax, or email Vera Padilla at LHS.

Tonight's Football Game-
$5.00 GATE TICKET SALES UNTIL FULL.

URGENT REMINDER- PARKING or "there's very little parking"- - -

-mainly just street only, unless you know some folks in the area and can use their driveways.

HANDICAPPED PARKING - remember "90 Years" as a school? A long time - some of us are getting up there in years, and some of us just feel like it, so it's a real issue that will have to be much more clearly defined, by next home game at the lastest, I'd expect. This is so critical for Lincoln because of the huge incline from N. Broadway, and the stairs upon stairs by the "tennis"/basketball courts. Bad enough for able-bodied students. You have been there. You know.

(Oh, and I am not complaining, but just observing. If the handicapped parking and access issues are not addressed ASAP, there WILL be someone who WILL complain to get it "corrected" ultimately (= "litigation"), so let's get with it before it gets to that point. It's a civil rights issue like so many more of the things in the past from which we now benefit, so don't get too excited about LHS being "forced" to do anything. Get left out and you will feel differently about things. Elevators are being constructed throughout the school, but not yet done.... it will be a while for that to be ready.)

"Handicapped Parking" is not clearly established, at least at the Thursday alumni meeting, but compliance with ADEA and related laws is required. You may want to call the school's office- 323-221-4021- then "O" to get a live person.

BE EARLY OR CAR POOL OR EXPECT TO WALK FAR. Gates St. School is supposed to allow parking on their property, but a $3.00 fee was the word at the meeting. (Said to be due to Gates' liability concerns, but that fee just establishes the agreement to care for your car's safety, generally.)

SCHEDULE:
4:30 p.m. Alumni & other VIP in Girls' Gym for Reception.
6:30 p.m. Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Andrus Field and the new lights will be powered up.
7:00 p.m. Kickoff for the Lincoln Tigers v. the Roosevelt Rough Riders

Roosevelt colors are, as accurately as observed, crimson and gold- like USC. PLEASE avoid wearing those colors if you are a LINCOLN fan.

Lincoln colors- like if you could forget- are Orange and Black. (BTW, Homecoming is on Friday, October 31st.) Show some school spirit, wear your colors proudly.

Good Luck, Tigers!

The Alumni Association meeting last night focused attention on tomorrow's event, the Ribbon Cutting tomorrow night before the varsity football game against Roosevelt. This will be at 6:30 p.m. The wooden bleachers were replaced a few years ago with aluminum style benches and are for the home fans only. Capacity is rated at 2,100 persons. We may be getting close to a sell out for that game, so be as early as you can for the 6:30 p.m. Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony.

Mr. Jim Molina, LHS Principal, Ed Reyes, 1st District City Council Member, and LHS Student Body President will have the honors, at which time the lights for Andrus Field will become fully operational. At our meeting, we got a preview of the lights in action as they were being tested to make sure it all worked as per the plans.

Ticket prices were changed at the last minute by the Business Office and Gate Prices for available tickets will be $5.00, the same as pre-orders and not $7.00 as earlier announced to us. (Next game may be different- 4 night home games this year.)

LAST WEEK- LHS v. Mark Keppel, won by Lincoln, 41-0. Hope the team can keep up the momentum.

Our Varsity team will be on the field for the Ribbon Cutting.

Announcement: Due to problems beyond Alumni and Student control (at this time) there will not be a field marching band for this game. Several students and alumni band members will, however, volunteer to create a band to be set up in the stands to provide the necessary element to our games. More on the Band situation later.

Nov. 1 Gala Reunion tickets at $75.00 available now. Yes, Food served. It will be buffet style food stations, with seating throughout the area.

More later.
